Full time Stock person - Mixed family farm with prize-winning suckler herd Kent + 3/4 bedroom farm cottage + Pension + 6+ weeks holiday per year (including bank holidays) + competitive renumeration package for the right person.
A rare opportunity has arisen for a stockperson to join our mixed family farm just outside Canterbury, Kent. We are looking for a dynamic, trustworthy and reliable individual to join our team for this hands-on role managing our herd of Sussex Cattle.
Reporting directly to the Farm Partners, the successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing a beef herd, display a strong work ethic and a passion for progressive farming practices.
Our Pedigree Sussex herd of 180 cows (plus followers) has a strong reputation for producing both breeding and fat stock. We have a proud record of success in the Sussex Cattle Society herd competition (winning best large herd 3 of the last 4 years and Champion herd twice).
The successful candidate will be able to carry our reputation forward; with excellent attention to detail, knowledge and competency of all aspects of beef farming including health treatments, feed rations, breeding traits and grassland management.
The successful applicant will be capable of maintaining and organising all computerised records for the herd including health treatments, births and movements.
The applicant must hold a full valid UK driving licence. An ability to operate and maintain modern farm machinery effectively is also essential. The role will include daily tractor, trailer and telescopic work and during winter we use both a feeder wagon and straw chopper.
Baling experience, digger and chainsaw certificates would also be desirable.
The role also requires practical skills in fencing and farm upkeep.
The current stockman also has responsibility for day to day management of our flock of 280 Romney x Lleyn ewes. This responsibility and work can be discussed based on the candidates interest and knowledge in sheep husbandry and does not necessarily form part of this job role.
It is essential that you are comfortable working alone or as part of a team. You will be supported by a small established team made up of family and employees and training opportunities will be provided as required.
Our family farm grows over 300ha of combinable and potato crops, along with our own forage. We have a small dedicated team who help each other during busy times. We are looking for someone with the ability to hit the ground running and collaborate their ideas to promote the success of the herd and farm. It is a full-time position which includes routine weekend work on a rota basis.
