Description

An experienced and conscientious stockperson (male or female) wanted for a full time role on an organic beef and sheep farm near Thame, Oxfordshire.

We run a small herd of pedigree Longhorns and a small flock of Gotland sheep on our regenerative, organic pastoral farm. The livestock are finished on farm and the meat is sold directly to customers.

Main duties:


  • Daily care of livestock with a careful stock check and thorough attention to feet, eyes, worms and awareness of possible diseases. Treatment of any illness.

  • Seasonal management including calving and lambing, vaccinations etc

  • Planning and carrying out feeding using a paddock grazing system in summer and bale grazing in winter (previous experience not essential but must be willing to do this);winter feeding with bale grazing outdoors or with a telehandler.

You will have full responsibility for the welfare of the animals.

Other duties include simple record keeping; possible help with direct sales; keeping the farm in good order with seasonal jobs including fence maintenance, tree work and ragwort pulling and perhaps hedge laying and tree or hedge planting. Basic machinery and equipment maintenance.

The farm is focused on sustainability with an aim to increase wildlife, minimise fossil fuels and produce high-welfare, organic meat. Future projects might include managing for Biodiversity Net Gain and Agroforestry.

The candidate:


  • Enthusiasm for sustainable farming and willingness to carry out regenerative, paddock grazing areessential although previous experience of this is not essential.

  • Good stock experience and a serious commitment to highest welfare standards are essential

  • Must be self-sufficient and happy to work alone but working with others will also be involved

If you like livestock, wildlife and physical work, this could be the job for you. If you like sitting on a tractor or gator, it is not! I want someone who is conscientious and careful and who really likes looking after animals.

One bedroom accommodation available. This is suitable for a couple, perhaps with a young child. A part time role could be available for the other person.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, regenerative farmer who will enjoy working on this sustainable family farm.
