We are looking for one permanent general farm worker.
We are a family farm growing combinable crops and regenerative vegetable crops and lambing only 400 ewes with 7 sows and some 250 laying hens. We are also building a small community farm, retailing our produce and run a livery yard. We are also considering cows as we expand our retail side.
Your role will be to care for the chickens, the pigs and the sheep on a daily basis alongside other tasks.
Our combinable crops are grown on a stubble to stubble contract so our involvement is limited, however we do have the grain to load out over the winter. We also make hay and some of that work we do ourselves, there will be small amounts of tractor and telehandler work.
The veg crops are expanding from a tiny start. The tractor work there is with older equipment and mostly bed work, but the majority of the work is done by hand and human effort.
In addition we also have a lot of fencing work, both new lines and repairs to existing fences, this alongside making up for some neglect in terms of estate and machinery maintenance so turning your hand to these repairs will also be an asset to us.
We deliver much of our produce directly to the customers' homes and this will be part of the role; we are also hoping to start hosting school visits so a friendly demeanour and an ability to get along is important to us.
We are looking for someone self motivated who is happy to tackle all aspects of our business, caring for the animals mostly alone, but also working with the vegetable grower in sowing, weeding, picking and packing. This needs to go alongside decent driving skills in and out of the sheds to muck out or to load grain as well as the willingness to lean sideways against the wind and rain to get a fence repaired. Some agricultural experience required.
