2022 2024: Farm, Chedworth, Gloucestershire

Lived and worked as Dairy Herd Manager on this 500-acre organic dairy farm, producing high quality milk from grass for an on-site cheese maker, with surplus being sold to a local dairy. Duties included, but certainly not limited to: milking circa 200 cross-bred cows on a spring/autumn block, all associated herd health tasks, youngstock rearing, fertility management, cropping and grazing management and implementing grazing plans. Using Uniform, CTS (registering births and deaths, on/off movements etc.), assisting the owner with auditing. Managing and directing a team of up to 6 staff members (though regularly lone working), implementing new protocols regarding day-to-day routine, bio-security and future business goals and infrastructure planning. Working closely with the farm owner, vets and consultant.

2021 2022: Farm, Lancashire

Worked as Stockman/GFW milking 380 pedigree Holsteins calving AYR. Duties included, but not limited to: milking in a 16/16 DeLaval herringbone parlour, AI, overseeing vaccination programmes, calving, yard and bedding duties, feeding groups of cows with a Total Mixed Ration, farm maintenance and building work (welding and fabricating, new concreting and cubicle projects).

All associated field works and forage harvesting. Working with and directing a small team.

2020 2021: Beef, Devon

Lived and worked as Herdsman on this PFLA certified farm. Day to day responsibility of a 700 head, pedigree Aberdeen Angus suckler herd. Roles included but not limited to: grazing management utilising mob grazing techniques, all associated husbandry tasks, all associated machinery work (tractor and trailer, telehandler, etc.), administering drugs according to veterinary advice, filling in medicine records, liaising with the vet, calving duties (some with complications), taking finished animals to the abattoir, feeding animals a Total Mixed Ration in accordance with weekly feeding regime in winter months. Also at times, when the farms Team Leader was away, I oversaw a small team including a young apprentice.
