Farming background

I have been in farming/forestry for the majority of my working life and have a broad skill base which includes most cattle management regimes, and all associated tasks around the farm and also contract calving and lambing. As farm manager it was my responsibility to manage the 350 head suckler herd and a team of two men, where we took all progeny through to fat once the estate fattening unit became available, I liaised with the estate office with NVZ figures and the purchase of grass for silage and straw. I have worked as part of a team on large horsepower tractors on carrot and potato gangs and I consider myself to have good workshop and vehicle maintenance skills. At present I split my time between relief milking and habitat maintenance /creation for local wildlife trusts, work which includes chainsaw work and fencing etc. and working as a badger vaccinator on the Welsh government TB scheme.
