Animal Technician December 2022 to December 2023 (one-year contract)

The role is pig-focused but includes general farm work. I act as relief for the pig unit and generally assist with other activities, which can be variable but mainly involve cattle duties (feeding, handling, milking). All aspects of working on a small pig unit,Paying a lot of attention to detail in the breeding programme Liaison with clients who use the piglets for research concerning the timing of farrowing Limited involvement in demonstration and hosting visits Where appropriate, the post holder would support work in other areas of research

Farm work:

I'm have a family run farm there i've done stock experience:

Lambing

Calving

Farrowing

TB testing with vet

Milking

Scanning stock

Record keeping

Medication administration

Feeding, bedding, watering, and handling of cattle/sheep

Monitoring health status and ensuring correct tagging and identification.

Treating sick animals and assisting the Vets in routine inspections of the herd/flock.

Assisting in the management of stock rotations and grassland growth.

Feeding animals in the early mornings/late night
