Main Purpose of Job:  To provide a general and practical support service to the Social Care Farm, working with a team of resident Villagers, Co-workers and Day Placements some of whom have learning disabilities. Role Summary:  the Farm Assistant will . . . Help to create a social therapeutic environment based on Anthroposophy and support the application of biodynamic agricultural principles. Develop a warm, friendly and flexible approach to working on Newton Dee Farm. Have a motivated and enthusiastic attitude. Carry out all relevant machinery/mechanical duties such as ploughing, harvesting, baling, muck spreading, bedding, slurry, etc. Work well within a team and independently as needed, building rapport and healthy, professional relationships. Be aware of and manage risks, both to yourself and others. Delegate tasks appropriately and provide direct supervision where necessary to other Team Members.  Inclusive in this is the thorough and conscientious induction of new team members. Support villagers and day placements in conducting their tasks and help them develop skills as well as independence in their work as much as possible. Ensure that the needs of all adults with learning disabilities are met and that they are engaged in appropriate activities according to their abilities. Protect and promote the welfare and well-being of the adults with learning disabilities in your care at all times. Ensure that the Farm is at all times a safe and well organised area both for Newton Dee Co-Workers, Villagers, Day Placements and the general public. Adhere at all times with Newton Dee Policies and Procedures, paying particular attention to Adult Protection policies and Health and Safety in a working environment. Attend on request all relevant meetings, including annual reviews of workshop placements, and all relevant trainings offered. Respond to any changes in staffing in the workshop in a constructive and helpful manner. Develop and maintain a good working system to ensure that all health and hygiene regulations are adhered to. Train co-workers, villagers and day placements as appropriate.   Proactively plan new work initiatives in and around the farm in collaboration with the whole team. Order, maintain and safely store any and all equipment and chemicals relevant for the job. Perform any other tasks from time to time which may be necessary to further the objectives of Newton Dee Camphill Community. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS Essential Qualities: ●      Knowledge and experience of farming and milk processing. ●      Experience in using a wide variety of farm machinery. ●      Knowledge of working with livestock. (Animal Husbandry) ●      Experience in supervising a small team. ●      Practical abilities, skills and experience in farming. ●      Good problem solving skills. ●      Full, clean driving licence. ●      An excellent Team Worker. ●      A willingness to support adults with additional support needs. ●      A friendly, warm and open demeanour. ●      A basic understanding of and sympathy for Camphill values and our ethos as detailed in our Guiding Vision Statement. Desirable Qualities: ●      Background and experience of working with adults with learning disabilities. ●      Direct experience and knowledge of the Camphill values and ethos. ●      Self-motivated, with a willingness to learn.

Newton Dee Camphill Community is home to more than 200 people, half of whom have special needs.  Newton Dee's home life is based around large and small households ranging from four to 16 people. There are 36 houses in Newton Dee's wooded grounds, which extend to a total of 180 acres, of which 120 acres is dedicated to our biodynamic farm.  In addition to those who live and work in Newton Dee as volunteers we also have a number of employees for certain areas that we cannot cover ourselves.
