(Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire) - Student Farm Worker July 2015 – July 2016 An agricultural contracting business covering 3,000 acres of combinable crops. Responsibilities included: grain carting and grain shed management; primary cultivations and rolling during the drilling season; spraying and crop walking during the spring. All these extended existing arable working skills. In the winter responsibilities included: digger operation; drainage management; fence erection; woodland management. All these improved teamwork and communication skills. Sole responsibility managing personal projects, for example, introducing variable rate nitrogen application. (Norfolk) - Harvest Worker July – September 2014 Farms of 4,000 acres of combinable and root crops. Responsibilities involved management of the potato-grading shed and loading lorries, helping to build teamwork skills. Responsible for: relief combine driving; grain carting; operating the dryer; sprayer driving; heavy cultivating; relief drilling. These involved long hours and late nights. Estate management experience was gained which included maintaining woodlands and assistant game-keeping. (Norfolk/Suffolk/Cambridgeshire) - Bailer Operator June – December 2012 A large outdoor pig operation supplying Waitrose. Main responsibilities were bailing and carting the straw to various units around Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, which improved experience of operating large machinery on public roads. The maintenance and cleanliness of the bailer and tractor was the operator’s responsibility, which improved machinery maintenance experience. Other jobs included transporting and maintaining pig units. (Lincolnshire) - Work Experience June 2011 An arable farming company which operates around Boston. Helped carry out pre-harvest jobs including irrigation and crop husbandry. Carried out irrigation management and joined in with the agronomist’s crop walks. Gained wider agronomical knowledge. (Norfolk) - Work Experience June – July 2010 They sell and service John Deere and Väderstad machinery throughout Lincolnshire and Norfolk. Experience was gained with the fitters, which increased maintenance and breakdown knowledge. Helped the salesman with tasks involving talking to customers, which improved people communication skills. Delivered machines and equipment to farms.
